Hello. I'm Jennifer and a Graphic Designer. I believe everyone should at least spend one night camping on the side of the mountain in a sleeping bag staring at shooting stars. I celebrate Christmas in July and have worked as a jail actor for a summer job. I plan to fill my days with design and an uncommon lifestyle. One day I would love to live in a tree house, and one of my most prized possessions is a bison ring, which I rarely take off.
And it's not from sitting in the art studio doing homework.
I'll be honest. The past two weeks I've been having way too much fun and not getting as much work done as I should.
So it goes.
Last night I sat down in the studio ready to be productive, and bam, I get a text to go to a local festival/carnival thing.
Hw or carnival? Which sounds more fun....? so obviously I left the studio went on some major sketchily awesome rides and didn't get anything accomplished. BUT, I had a lot of fun so it was totally worth it.
A super sketchy ferris wheel ride
After not doing anything productive last night I thought that today I would sit in the studio till I rotted...but no. I went to the beach...got a little sunburned and then finally succumbed to the fact that I need to do some designing.
I should get kicked out the studio anytime now but thank goodness for energy drinks because I am going to go home and work until I have yoga class at 9 am.
I've actually finished a lot of design work tonight but I haven't uploaded the finished pics of them just yet...so you'll have to wait to see them later on.
sorry for the posting delay but this past week has been uber exciting.
This past weekend was the 2011 Jacksonville Addy Awards Gala. The Addy awards are the 'grammys' of advertising and design for professionals and students, and take place regionally and nationally. About 9 students from Flagler entered projects into student design categories for the competition and I personally entered in 3 projects and a group packaging. The awards gala was space themed so of course we dressed up crazy and stormed the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville. We were loud and somewhat obnoxious but it was fine because WE PWND THE COMPETITION. It was Flagler design students vs. UNF design students and we walked away with 16 wins compared to their 5 wins. I walked away with a gold and silver award and am super stoked.
Here is the list of all the Addy winners (scroll down for the student section) addy winners

We were a little crazy at the after party..but it was totally worth it.
The next day I got to go to Disney with friends to celebrate.
Now I have to get back to the grind of design work so I will leave you with an awkward photo of myself.
I bought accidentally bought laxative yesterday from the dollar store.
Being an art major entitles searching store aisles for certain containers for their size/shape/bottle tops to complete a project. I am currently working on a portfolio project for a made up paint supplier that creates external house paint that changes according to temperature to lessen household energy costs.
I named my made up company Thermeleon and yesterday I decided to look for a bottle that could hold a paint sample for my project.
When I found my perfect bottle I failed to read the label, and when I checked out with my lone purchase of lemon flavored laxative the cashier man laughed at me and asked if I was going to spike someone's drink. I of course had no idea what he was talking about and mumbled something about the shape of the bottle and walked out.
I'm so awkward.
Here are all the drafts I've made for the Thermeleon paint logo
I am so behind on my portfolio work and am stressing out, but that's okay since I get to go to Disney on Sunday with wonderful people. I played in a trivia night competition at my school yesterday with the same wonderful people I'm going to Disney with. We won $5 each to a frozen yogurt shop and I plan on competing every week with them because I like winning things (especially if playing trivia will distract me from my hw).
Oh, and my dad visited me tonight!! He bought me dinner and ice cream :) and then we walked around town because St. Augustine is so beautiful. It was a wonderful visit to help me persevere through countless nights of incessant designing.
which is surprising since it is a GORGEOUS day and I am sitting in the art building working on portfolio.
I am content because I am accomplishing a lot and I am not behind on my work. Being punctual is not something I am known for, so I hope that I can maintain this stamina and positive demeanor toward portfolio for the rest of the semester.
For our 3 project review/critique on Friday, we had to sit through a 4 HOUR class. It was awful but we survived, and to celebrate the first completion of a group of projects we threw a Black Swan (or white) party and it was incredibly fun. There is a lot of motivation doing the projects knowing that at the end of every 2 weeks when 3 projects are due we get to celebrate.

What happened to my pretty girl?!?
I love my graphic design peeps and cross-country peeps and everyone at this Liberal Arts school.
now I have to get back to portfolio work and wait for the next portfolio party.
currently I am making a masthead for an urban art magazine
I at least get to see the sunshine when venturing outside to spray paint over hand cut stencils.
Sometimes I find myself going through design websites for hours looking for inspiration and getting incredibly jealous. I am in a design rut about the Lionheart Relay logo. My professor says it looks like clipart. I have until FRIDAY to complete the logo, shirts, flyers, poster, flags, etc. etc.
Cheers to not sleeping/leaving the art building until Friday afternoon.
That being said. I get upset when I run into old acquaintances when I'm walking home for my one hour break from design and they say "Where have you been?"
doing art hw. duh.
I always wondered what it would be like to not be an art major. Sure other majors are hard...but are they as time consuming?
portfolio fun
Now I'm getting grumpy. I need a popsicle. If you ever go to St. Augustine to visit, make sure you stop by The Hyppo because it is the best thing to ever happen to this city. Here is their website http://www.thehyppo.com/
It's Peanut Butter Pie Tuesday so obviously I need to take a break sometime during the day and go.
