D-Day part 1

AT 8:41 AM ON FRIDAY I finished my 43 page presentation.

Sheesh, I should have been a communications major if I wanted 'leisure time' or 'sleep'.

I heard people laughing on campus yesterday when I was working, and I wanted to slap something. STOP HAVING FUN WHEN I'M CRAPPIN MY PANTS WITH STRESS.

I didn't really crap my pants....but you get the idea of my stress level.

I was reading about sleep deprivation the other day and I realized that I live in that state more often than I would like.

Oh, and I ran out of Chik-fil-a coupons yesterday which was depressing, so I need to stop at my local Hilton Hotel and snag more. I need them more than the tourists do.

And I wore a hoodie out in public to turn in my presentation (really) ( I never do...ask my dad)

Coffee is the new water

16 hours until I have to turn in my files for the 9 week review...and then I have to wait 4 more hours to present my projects.

I am probably getting heart palpitations from the amount of caffeine I consume. Oh well.

Here are some designs I am trying to finalize in my remaining hours

These are the posters I made for the Project Mayhem fashion show inspired by Fight Club

Here is a patch that guests of the fashion show will receive

Poster for the Let's Move campaign

The Lionheart Relay flyers (The relay is in one week!!!)

Here is informational pull-out tap on my Thermeleon paints. The pull-out will describe the lightest and darkest shade the specific swatch will change to, and let's the consumer know how much they should expect to save on energy costs with the paint.

I also decided to make little swatch cards for the consumer to pick up at Home Depot

That is only a sample of what will be in my presentation tomorrow, so I hope it goes well and that I don't get annihilated by the judges.

I was up to 5 am working last night and here are some pics of the night

This video is hysterical.

Get on my level

I am a very disciplined person but lately I have been almost too spontaneous with how to spend my time.

I have a 9 week review on Friday. boo...but I am perfectly on schedule with my projects so I am not panicking. Oh, and I just decided to include another magazine in my portfolio. Here it is online...it is a sustainability magazine called Extract that I designed in the spring of 2010.

I am enjoying college way too much and I would rather remember the good times I had and not all the hours I slaved away in the art building. It is 10:30 on a Saturday night and I'm sitting in the art building so don't think that I don't do any work. I'm here now because I was having excessive fun last night and today.

I was doing hw (seriously) after pulling an all-nighter with 6 other people in my house on Thursday to prepare ourselves for a Friday critique, and a friend called me to say that he was picking me up to go to Chili's.

cue the spontaneity.

I walk out of my house to see the men's cross-country team jammed in a Jeep and them opening the trunk for me to sit in....so chivalrous. Then at the restaurant I am confronted by 2-1 drinks at Chili's. dangerous...and delightful. The night progressed into a roof top dance party at a friend's house and a couch slumber party. I woke up this morning, made brownies, heard the term 'Chipotle' and found myself en route to Daytona for errands and burritos. Alex Bonus and I sang Jason Mraz together, drove with the windows down, and yelled 'Usher' out the window when we felt compelled. It was magical.

this is my life.

so random and exciting.

Now I am doing copious amounts of hw to get ahead for the week because MY BEST FRIEND IS COMING TO TOWN ON TUESDAY. Yes. so excited. I am annoyed that every state school in Florida has the same spring break and Flagler gets a 4 day weekend a week after the state schools. oh well. It happens.

p.s. the re-branding of Chipotle is totally cool. They made their own 'newspaper' talking about burritos and how you needed them. The newspapers were placed strategically so that you can read them while waiting in line. awesome.

The all-nighter on Thursday.

Here are the boys at Chili's and the delicious drinks.

Now I'm off to design things while listening to the Fight Club soundtrack. weeeeeeeeeeeeee

How I feel about life

I love college

I love college almost in a creepy Asher Roth way. Flagler College is like a 4 year vacation. I mean, being an art major is hard work but seriously, I am having way too much fun for this to be real life.

This week I went to a fair down the street, I just sat on a friend's roof after I ate free food for winning a silly trivia contest on campus, and hosted a redneck party that turned into a rager (sorry mom and dad). My friends are ridiculously funny and I couldn't have made it 4 years without them.

I don't want to graduate. Graduation means finding a job and having to work hard to eventually get to the level of pampering and comfort that I am at now.

I went to Disney for free the other day.

I am going to bonnaroo this summer and getting there on an RV with friends.

This seriously isn't real life. I live 5 minutes from the beach and I used to dorm in an old hotel that looks like Hogwarts.

I am enjoying college way too much and I don't want it to end.

Here we are on a roof.

Down the street from Flagler

Here are some of the Graphic Design kids

and some of my cross-country lovers

Homework is getting in the way of my having fun. Oh well, I work hard to party hard. If partying means having cross-country sleepovers and playing Jenga with the design kids on the weekends, then yes, I will work hard to have this much fun in my free time.

Fight Club Fashion

I"m currently designing a Fight Club themed runway show for the designers DSquared2, and I'm using images from their Fall/Winter 2010 show called Hard Hockey. This year is the 15th anniversary of the novel's release and I am celebrating it with my fake fashion showcase. I am super stoked for this project because I designing the runway, invitations, and posters for the event. I love the novel and movie (despite the different ending) so I have been working a lot to make it appealing.

I want the designs to have a somewhat chaotic feel and to mimic the double personality of the main protagonist.

Here are the posters I am working on

I am going to make a 3dimensional invitation but I haven't figured out all of the logistics yet.

If you haven't read Fight Club yet I highly recommend it.

not getting by M.R.S. degree (sorry mom)

Yay Graphic Design! woooooooooooooooooooo

I've been doing a lot of mock-ups for my portfolio projects lately. For my portfolio class we have separated the semester in 2 week segments, with 3 projects completed and due every 2 weeks. At the end of the semester we need to have 12 projects, personal identity (business cards, envelopes, invoice, letterhead), a self promotional piece, and a beautifully designed portfolio to showcase our 12 projects.

I'm kind of stressing out. I technically have 6 projects done, but I still have to finish mocking them up and photographing them....so...I'm not really done.

BUT

after 9 weeks the portfolio students are getting our work reviewed by a panel of professors and professionals. If we pass the review THEN we get to submit our final portfolio to the AIGA review. AIGA "the professional association of design" is a big deal in the design world and have portfolio reviews for college seniors in regions throughout the United States. The AIGA review selects the top 10 portfolios per region and last year Flagler got 8 out of the top 10 spots. Here is the AIGA website http://www.aiga.org/

So there is a lot of pressure for us this year to get even more.

I have less than 2 weeks to finish three more projects and have them constructed and photographed and showcased beautifully for the judges.

Oh, and I need to learn some social skills. cool.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I've had too much caffeine lately so that I can stay up and work forever and ever.

My organs hate me probably.

Oh well, here are some pics of my last group of projects.

The first is part of an ad campaign for Doc Martens shoes (this won me a silver Addy award!)

The second project is an advertisement to companies to support local schools with the Let's Move! campaign started by Michelle Obama to reduce the numbers of obese children in America. I had to idea for communities to support each other in the weight loss movement. The idea was for companies to buy vegetable seeds for a school garden (to contribute healthy food for the cafeteria) or new playground/gym equipment for the school if a certain percentage of the student population completes the President's Fitness Challenge.

Here is the pamphlet asking companies to help

I still have to construct the seed packets for the project....but at least I designed it already.

And lastly, here is a paint company that I envisioned called Thermeleon. Thermeleon would sell colors of exterior house paint that changes color according to temperature to save on energy costs. The color would turn a darker shade the colder it was outside to absorb heat and would lighten the hotter it got to repel the sun's rays.

here is a booklet showing the shades available for purchase with information about the company and a sample paint to test out.

whew.

Now I am onto my next set of projects. ahhhh. But I'll spare you the details for now :)
